Makayla T.

July 3rd- A guest artist taught us how to make Bentwood boxes. He talked about the traditional uses & the various art decorations.

July 9th- Walked her dog & then went to workshop at the band hall. The subject was values. The conversation was around choosing several top values & how they relate to us personally, what we see in others etc. E.g. accountability, honesty, independence, pride.

Makayla spoke openly & candidly about her values & who she is influenced by.

July 16th - We went to a workshop on Depression & Anxiety. Signs, symptoms, & coping skills.

July 17th - The workshop today was working on a large cedar storage box. Makayla was taught how to use a skill saw, a drill & measuring her materials.

July 23rd - Today’s workshop was building red cedar garden boxes & metal tool boxes. The lesson was using rivets, metal punch tools, measuring tapes, hammers & nails.

July 30th - Today’s workshop was on Grief & Trauma. Makayla spoke about the loss of grandparents. She has been open & confident talking in front of the group.

All other days were spent continuing our workouts at the gym w/a hot tub treat at the end.

To move out of her comfort zone & share thoughts, idea’s & opinions w/workshop participants & facilitator’s.

To learn several trade skills e.g. how to use a skill saw safely, how to measure & cut wood, use a drill, hammer & hand saw.

The T’Souke Nation has offered a training series of workshops through Construction Foundation of BC.
I have observed Makayla growing in confidence when speaking in front of a group. She has shown to be comfortable with the facilitators using humour & her own personal stories.

Makayla has also shown confidence in using many work related tools.
